ISO 6983 (G-koda)Machining & tolerances

ISO 6983 — G-code, the CNC programming language

What is it?

The standardised base language of CNC controls (G00 rapid, G01 feed, M-functions…), dialects differing by control (Fanuc, Siemens Sinumerik, Heidenhain). Writing and editing programs at the machine is the operator-to-programmer boundary.

What evidence should a candidate have?

Named controls with concrete tasks (program editing, offsets, new setups), CAM software experience, and vocational diplomas.

Why it matters for staffing

An operator who edits G-code fixes problems at the machine in minutes instead of waiting for a technologist — clients feel it immediately in output.
