How to verify an Electrician CV — official standards
Electrician CVs are difficult to compare because the job title says almost nothing about scope. "Electrician" can mean pulling cable on a construction site, commissioning low-voltage installations under HD 60364, working live under the rules of EN 50110-1, or testing appliances to EN 50678 / EN 50699. When candidates apply across borders, the qualification names change too: a Slovenian NPK Elektroinštalater, a German Geselle or Meister, or a vocational diploma placed somewhere on EQF levels 1–8.
The standards themselves are documented and checkable. HD 60364 (IEC 60364, in Germany VDE 0100) governs LV installations, with Part 6 requiring verification by measurement. EN 50110-1 defines who may do what: skilled, instructed or ordinary person. A rigorous check means reading the CV against these references, asking for the documents behind each claim, and confirming whether the role is regulated in your country via Directive 2005/36/EC and the RegProf database. What a strong CV must contain
A strong CV names the framework the candidate worked to: HD 60364 / IEC 60364 for LV installations, EN 50110-1 for safe operation, EN 62305 where lightning protection was involved. Generic phrasing like "installation and maintenance" tells you nothing about scope.
Part 6 of HD 60364 requires verification by measurement: insulation resistance, fault-loop impedance and RCD tests. Look for these named explicitly, plus the instruments used and who signed off the results.
EN 50110-1 distinguishes skilled, instructed and ordinary persons and sets out the five safety rules before work. The CV should state which role the candidate held, and whether they were authorised for live working conditions.
Ask for the qualification name plus its level: NPK Elektroinštalater (SI), German Geselle (EQF 4) or Meister (EQF 6), or a vocational diploma with the awarding body named. Without an EQF reference, national titles are hard to compare.
If the candidate claims equipment testing, expect EN 50678 (after repair) or EN 50699 (recurring periodic tests) — protective conductor, insulation and leakage current measurements. In the German market this appears as DGUV V3 / VDE 0701/0702 testing.
ESCO lists installing electric switches and electricity sockets, using precision tools, using safety equipment in construction, working ergonomically and resolving equipment malfunctions. A useful CV shows where and on what type of installation these were done.
