ESCO & ISCO-08 — the EU classification of occupations and skills
What is it?
ISCO-08 is the international occupation coding (e.g. 7212 = welders); ESCO is the EU's richer layer on top: ~3,000 occupations and ~13,900 skills, described in 28 languages with a free public API. Every WorkerProof trade module is mapped to its ESCO/ISCO group.
What evidence should a candidate have?
Not a candidate document — it is the common language connecting CVs, job ads and qualifications across EU systems (EURES uses it too).
Why it matters for staffing
Using ESCO codes makes your candidate pool interoperable with EURES, national job boards and clients' ATS systems — one shared vocabulary instead of guesswork.
