NDT — non-destructive testing of welds
What is it?
Methods that check welds without cutting them: visual (VT, ISO 17637), penetrant (PT, ISO 3452), magnetic (MT, ISO 17638), radiographic (RT, ISO 17636) and ultrasonic (UT, ISO 17640). RT/UT are the demanding volumetric methods.
What evidence should a candidate have?
Test reports or references stating the welder's joints passed RT/UT; for inspectors, ISO 9712 personnel certification.
Why it matters for staffing
“My welds passed RT/UT” backed by reports means verified high quality; only visual inspection (VT) means basic-level evidence.
