EN ISO 6947 — welding positions (PA–PG, 1G–6G)
What is it?
The coding of welding positions: PA (flat) to PG (vertical down) for plate, 1G to 6G for pipe. 6G (pipe fixed at 45°), H-L045 and PF/PE are the hardest — qualifying in them covers easier positions too.
What evidence should a candidate have?
Positions listed on the 9606/WPQ certificate, not merely claimed in the CV text.
Why it matters for staffing
A certified 6G pipe welder is the universal premium profile — one certificate covers nearly everything and commands top rates.
