ISO/TR 15608 — material groups for welding

What is it?

Sorts metals into numbered groups: 1–2 carbon/fine-grain steels, 8 austenitic stainless, 10 duplex, 21–26 aluminium alloys, 41–48 nickel. Welder certificates are valid per material group.

What evidence should a candidate have?

Material groups on the 9606 certificate plus real references (S355–S690, 316L, duplex, aluminium).

Why it matters for staffing

Group 8/10 (stainless/duplex) and nickel qualifications open chemical, food and offshore projects — the highest-paying niches.
