WPS & WPQR — welding procedure specification and qualification

What is it?

The WPS (EN ISO 15609) is the recipe for a weld: parameters, materials, positions. The WPQR (EN ISO 15614-1) is the tested, certified proof that the recipe works. Serious production only welds to qualified procedures.

What evidence should a candidate have?

References to welding per WPS, or having welded qualification test pieces for a WPQR — the strictest supervised work that exists.

Why it matters for staffing

A welder fluent in WPS-driven work slots into certified production immediately; one who "welds by feel" cannot be used on coded jobs.
